Welcome in La Malène at the heart of the Gorges-du-Tarn
The mill was used to prepare flour and nut oil. There are a lot of nut trees in the Gorges. Nuts are either stored or used to prepare oil. During the religion war, a fire in a building of la Malène burnt all the reserves of nuts and oil and darkened the rocks above the village. We can still see the black traces today on the rocks.
The mill is still working today; it produces hydroelectricity.
In La Malène, cyclists can challenge the steep roads which go up the Causse de Sauveterre and Causse Méjean and the amateurs of bathing will love the water of the Tarn ... |
