Discovery of the Gorges du TarnCaving yes, but what is it?
Throughout time, the underground world has aroused the curiosity of men, a cavern from which a dark gallery begins where the paths resonate, a chasm where a stone thrown by man falls to infinity, a resurgence from which a clear river emerges.
Located in Lozère in the heart of Cévennes National Park, the Tarn canyon was formed between two large limestone massifs: the Causse de Sauveterre and the Causse Méjean. These massifs, made up of sedimentary rocks, have been hollowed out by water over the millennia, to leave room for kilometers of galleries that delight potholers.
This is the world that Seb, a State Brevet in Speleology for 20 years, will introduce you to today. Speleology is a sports activity and leisure. Your instructor will guide you through the many caves present in our limestone massif: The Gorges du Tarn et The Causses.
The geological environment that you will discover is very varied, whether you are thirsty for knowledge, adventure or simply want to learn, your caving guide will know how to adapt the route to your physical condition.

Whatever the outing, your instructor will provide you with the right equipment to transform you into a true explorer, so you can fully enjoy this discovery full of thrills.
- A caving suit, a helmet with headlamp, a pair of gloves, a pair of knee pads
- For aquatic cavities, a neoprene suit.
- For vertical caving, technical equipment that will allow you to progress on the rope: harness, lanyards, carabiner, descender, torso.
For this sports activity, it is advisable to wear loose clothing (such as jogging pants) and a microfleece as well as shoes that fit well on your feet.
For day trips, you must bring a picnic which will be stored in a waterproof container.
